User Reviews:

Apeman, Jan 05, 2008

This is a retrospective of a 1990's club in Brighton, UK called the Big Beat Boutique, Mixed by Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook) and was recorded live at the Boutique playing a varied mixture of tunes from Acid House, Breaks/Big Beat, Hip-Hop and Funk.

This mix is typical of the Big Beat era, as the DJ's had a varied ethos providing a rather eclectic night with things as different as 60's Rock music (The Beatles and the Kinks), and Native Tounges-era hip-hop at 45 RPM instead of 33 (That made the rapper's voices sound like Pinky and Perky).

Quite a few good tunes are in this CD like the Incredible Bongo Band's classic B-boy version of "Apache", Fred Wesley (Of James Brown Fame) and the Horny Horns' "Discositdown", and of course tunes from the Funk Soul Brother himself, Fatboy Slim.
