Francois K just played it in his new podcast, what a beast of a release!

I recently saw one of my favourite Detroit artist Juan Atkins play and his set closed with The Journey from this release, it was an absolute beauty of a song. I felt a transportation to an age when I was young and discovering the magic of Detroit techno, a place when things were simple and all I could love were the moments surrounding me which all ended to soon. I had a chance to speak to Mr. Juan Atkins and he was kind enough to share the information of this release. I left this show wondering if this may be something he had done and now wonder why no producer has taken credit for such a perfect record. I've been the proud owner for many months and in this time I've felt all the love I found in discovering this music. This alone is a feat not accomplished by many, this is beautiful Detroit techno music. Long live the Sons Of The Dragon, I certainly hope to hear more.

Forget the usual negative comments about who is behind what and why and just appreciate what is a hugely satisfying double pack of well produced techno.

Most of the appreciation I have seen has been for the second disc tracks, and yes these are excellent. However, do not overlook Motor City Matrix on the first disc - especially the original mix - pure detroit funk that begs to be played loud.

Overall, it is clear that much love and attention has gone into the execution of this release, but if that doesn't win you over and you are a particularly shallow individual, the lovely white vinyl and general presentation should win you over.

I am looking forward to a follow up release.

Quite nice Detroit styled double pack from lands unknown. Although if you happen to look to see who is selling copies of this ep here on Discogs you'll notice that Lee (In-Sync) Purkis head of the great Fortune8 label is selling a few. Hmmm, could it be a Lee Purkis production? Whomever it is really doesn't matter I suppose as I purchased it for the music, you should too. I would have to say that I much prefer this to the glut of dub techno that everyone seems to be putting out now. Seems that every label is willing to go to extraordinary lengths (low number of pressings and colored vinyl) just to cash in. Hopefully Soul Jazz will take note and collect up the best.

This record comes complete with the hype that an anonymous record proclaiming a certain pedigree should get. With Detroit obviously and heavily indebted to the "anonymous" to nearly impossible to discover anything out about artists who release devastating material. Just another day at the office. Nothing new here. Just another soon to be classic faceless release with hardly any information other than hearsay and the little it came with.
The reward is in the music and yes the music is rewarding. Whether it be in the shape of The Journey which begs to be ridden in the mix and teased. A relentless exercise in the power of a few sounds crawling all over a densely packed beat and bassline that continually recycles itself. The Evolution is similar in its arc and mission of complete control only with more space to explore and not so densely packed. These are good and will probably get the most upfront exposure.
The real reward of this pack is the second disc though. There's some chill out lo tempo material to play with at the appropriate moments. Then there's Motor City Matrix which is destined to be a future classic. And rightfully so. It is timeless and carries itself like an old friend that knows. It's got the scope, the drama, the personality and the motion that screams special record reserved for THOSE sets. The ones where someone is crying and dancing with their arms stuck up like branches in the wind because the music is that beautiful.
Who is it? I'm not terribly concerned and I don't feel I'll be too surprised if or when I do find out. I just hope this isn't the last we hear from them.

But I have to admit, although I thought I wouldn't buy Deepchord anymore, I've been tricked again !

Even though there seems to be quite a lot of bickering about on the hipster message boards stating releasing an anonymous record is all about capitalizing and marketing, I reckon it was the exact opposite reason for the fellas who put their funds on the line for this release. A true ace double, the artwork is one of a kind, unique and genuine, as is the way its all packaged and put together, a great find for me in a year which has left me feeling unsatisfied with most releases.

I have heard 10 different rumors about who made this record, from Juan Atkins, Convextion to Underground Resistance, the only thing I know for certain is Jeff Mills seems to playing it from the stories I've heard and for good reason, its a massive record. The A side is super slick, I cant figure out how they managed to pan the sounds around your head like that? It kind of messes me up when I am mixing it but it sounds so sweet coming out of the speakers. The second disk, YIKES, songs like these were meant to do one thing, detonate and explode! Astounding!
