Cyanide 45 - Notice Me / Deep Thrust Telescopic Probe

No comments on this beauty yet? It’s actually a very tough one to score (well, it took me a while anyway) but well worth it. Both sides are simply stunning and still sound fresh as dewdrop-drizzled daisies today.

"Notice Me" manages to span manic/ hard to smooth/ melodic and back again without missing a beat. Lovely treated orgasmic female vocal samples, hard synth riffage, brain-shaking breakbeats, soulful diva vocals over harmonious synth/piano lines, with a melodic slow squelchy type acid pattern emerging towards the end. A real spine-tingler!

"Deep Thrust Telescopic Probe" is possibly even better with a darker more hardcore sound and fewer housey elements. A chirpy tangle of sampled vocals and squeaks gives way to great slabs of hard sampled cosmic sounds and a subterranean bass line, as a doomy voice periodically intones "self-destruct" over the top. The whole thing builds and builds with more breakbeats and hard synth riffs entering the fray until we reach the two breakdowns. At these points, the whole tune seems to burst up into the stratospheric sunshine, as a sampled voice repeats the title of the track over bubble noises and bird tweets.

With so much going on and so many different elements interlocking you would expect it to sound cluttered, but whoever Cyanide 45 were, they knew how to put a track together. Brilliantly produced, conceived and put together, it’s criminal that this appears to have been their only release.
