minya, Aug 05, 2003 tHALidomide is exactly right. This album is a stunning gem, and doesnt seem to get anywhere near the recognition it deserves.
Merck as a whole is a pretty poor label in my opinion, but they did the right thing releasing Appelsap. Available for a while as a demoscene release (some of the best IDM ever, like Mellow-D, has come out of the Scandinavian demoscene), Merck finally released it as a CD. Its short - thirty-odd minutes (not counting remixes) - but it is glorious. Shimmering, emotional, groovy, and - get this - non-derivative. Its not an Aphex, Autechre, Squarepusher, BOC, Paradinas, anything ripoff. There are influences in his music, but its original.
And its great. Was the above review useful to you? (report)
