Circulation ‎– Colours

I do agree with scoundrel's previous thoughts on this, but I'm here to review exclusively the second disc.

"Aqua" starts off nice and moody, and then moves off with some funky stuff in "Beige." This track borrows some elements from French house, including the use of filters, without straying too far from tech house territory. "Scarlet" is particularly memorable (thanks, Pusha-Man, for introducing me to Circulation with this track), carrying a little more energy than some of the other tracks. "Lemon" goes into a deeper house sound, toning down from the energy in the previous track. The next two tracks aren't very notable, but "Purple" is quite good, going into deep house territory. And the album ends here, on a nice ambient sound.

Circulation releases their first album, Colours –- a compilation of several of their early 12”s. But what we really have is 11 tracks of squeaky-clean tech-house, probably some of the best in the business. Circulation’s work is aimed at the dancefloor, no doubt, but their quality and melodic sense make it fine for home listening. Within individual songs there’s not much development (which is too bad), but from song to song, they display versatility. “Burgandy,” for example, sparkles from its first chords and keeps things moving gracefully; “Cyan” is bright and uplifting, like a musical hug. “Turquoise,” however, goes icy darkness, and “Scarlet” and “Mauve” share in a moody funk. Disc 2 is mixed, but I personally prefer the unmixed versions.
