Various ‎– Moment Sound Vol. 1

In the past ten years, say since the arrival of Metro Area around 2000, trends among 'serious' electronic lovers and connoisseurs have been about diggin the obscure vaults from the past.
Disco, cosmic, kraut, soundtracks, balearism, early deep Chi-house, IDM...it was all done with a lot of respect, and a blurring of genres, space and time where a remastered reedit of an uncredited unknown gem could easily be introduced as a proper hot novelty.
But the actual original new material in that field was quite often a little boring and lifeless, very well executed and crafted but a little too self-conscious and frankly flirting too much with generic, 'lounge', decorative music for my taste.
And then you have this fresh and unknown collective of young producers apparently from Chicago, celebrating the 'moment' (hence their name) with just the right amount of loose, self-confidence, elegance and cool to make the difference.
So, seven tracks of supremely elegant more or less danceable space jams, with hints of Metro Area, slow, deep and jazzy Larry Heard or even Ian O'Brien/As One's abstract excursions from the mid-90s (themselves referring to spacejazz heroes a la Herbie Hancock or Sun Ra), but sounding totally 'now' and inhabited. Pure class, a real breath of fresh air.
