Regarding the "500 copies" - This cassette has been re-released by Ninja Tune, so there are many more copies circulating these days that are, for all intents and purposes, virtually identical. Still, it's a pretty amazing release, and even better now that it's readily available!
Truly phenomenal tape-only release that I picked up at a show in Hoboken around 1998-ish. I'm fairly sure that there are more than 500 of these around. If you haven't heard it, you should.
Not sure about the "Only 500 released" bit. I saw Kid Koala live around 2002 and at the end of the night I was able to purchase a cassette with the original artwork etc. - unless of course this was one of the 500 copies.
