The Raw Fusion crew turn up with an uptempo space disco 12” with a soulful male vocal. It’s hard to cover an all-time jazz-funk classic and whilst they’ve recorded it live with a big horn section, backing vocalists and funky percussion, it just falls short for me. It might be different if you’ve not heard the original. The Yam Who remix includes pianist Chris Jankel of Blockheads fame and Lil’ Rico on bass & percussion. It’s a Jazz House 4:4 variety which takes a bit of a break two thirds of the way in and then comes back at you for the last third with some bangin’ piano. It is apparently already an anthem down at the Raw Fusion club in Stockholm. Good stuff but I’m still left a little flat by both versions.
