I am never a fan of cover versions and thats especially so when its a cover of one of the greatest songs ever written by the greatest band to grace the planet but this release is essential and I thank Andrew Weatherall every day for turning me on to it. Where most cover versions fail, lacking any passion of the original tunes, these two covers, to borrow a title from Simple Minds, simply "Sparkle in the Rain". Its hard to choose the between the better of the two especially if im djing somewhere so I usuallly end up playing both. L.W.T.U.A. starts off with a really nice synth basssline and the beat is very Aphex Twin "On" in its kick butt sound. The vocals are passed through an effects processor and the whole thing really swings!
Atmosphere is the more subtle of the two but no less lethal in its dosage of brilliance. Again, its got a great beat and I can really bug out to it. Now, if only remixers or cover artists would take a clue as to how these things should be done...
