Josephschembri, Oct 30, 2006 Quite possibly the darkest release ever from the legendary TIP Records.
Before shutting doors in 1998 TIP had managed to introduce the dark side of goa trance. This mostly on the 3D compilation, TIP Singles 3 and on Beyond Colour. This last compilation is certainly the darkest of all. Except for the X-Dream remix of “Out Here We Are Stoned” there is no melodic goa-trance here. Most of it is wicked and dark trance, some titles have almost a techy kick and all tracks are loaded with weird sound layers, wicked sounds and occasionally some hunting voices too.
Take for example the 13 minute “Spastic Elastic” by Organic Noise. This track starts in a very minimalistic and almost boring (you would think) way. Slowly it builds up and then at 4:20 you’re totally surrounded by this track. Organic Noise is half Planet B.E.N., and in fact this track reminds the infamous 1996 album “Trippy Future Garden”. Another wicked tune is “Magik” by Hallucingen, with it’s repeating vocal sample “….it’s absolutely magic” it will keep hunting you after the track is over. GMS provide an excellent rework to Psychopod’s “Friagram”.
Except for track 2 which is the most accessible track and perhaps the track by Hallucinogen all tracks here deserve a couple of listenings before you start liking them, after which they will keep growing on you.
A very sinister and evil release - not for those who like easily digestible trance. If you want to listen what dark trance is (was) forget today’s crap and try this!
