Dominik Eulberg - Flora & Fauna

When I first popped this cd in, my first impression was another mediocre album. Must of not had a clear head, because a Sunday morning sit-down with coffee almost blew me out of my chair. I dont understand German, so I have no idea what the liner notes and song titles read, but basic Latin lets us know whats going when contrasted to the music.

Im reminded of the cold journey Krystian Shek took through Russia that spawned Eisblumen, but Flora & Fauna is delivered in a mush more visceral form. Tangible elements are created and allowed to make melodies that haunt with destruction. Im not sure if were in a friendly place all the time, as I suspect were the Fauna and our Flora has become cold steel.

Im really enjoying the production of the album as the environmental and ambient qualities are very enveloping, and in some ways, I wish we had a companion ambient cd to go along here- to ever increase the dichotomy, of course. I look forward to future productions from Eulberg and hope there happens to be some nice ambient in there too.

One last note, for us thirty-somethings, Track 9 is a very nice wistful flashback with a modern touch.
