Reviews & Discussion

For me this is one of their absolute best. A very underrated album i believe. The Diamond Sea is amazing (almost 20 minutes of crazy guitar noise) , also Washing Machine is a lovely song that erupts in SY's typical noise. Kim Gordons vocals are really great, great lo fi sound in some songs. It takes a while to get used to, its a more experimental than Dirty for instance... Try to get the one with the extra CD, great live versions of Erics Trip and The Diamond Sea!

I believe that "Washing Machine" is one of the weakeast releases by Sonic Youth. Maybe the problem is the fact that there are almost no fast numbers, almost all of them are mid-tempo rock tracks. Whatever the reason, I can't shake off the feeling that they sound bored, with the exception of "Junkie's Promise" (secret ode to Kurt Cobain, apparently) and epic "Diamond Sea" which is closing the album. Other tracks seems to just fill the space. Very disappointing record, in my opinion.
