If you listen to the stuff Kenny was doing on KDJ around the same time as this got released you'll notice the KDJ stuff generally has a dirtier feel. The cleanness of the production on this Soul City release is what sets it apart. Sure, Yesterday's is a get-down-n-party disco joint but Midnight and January are deep, sparse, super pumping and heavy... and at the same time, real clean! You could slip either track into any kind of house or garage set and often into a deeper techno set.

KDJ was on form when he made this beautiful house record. Winter breeze certainly sits with his finest, a rolling track with warm, jazzy samples. Sounds simple on paper, but very few house producers do it this well. January is just as good. KDJ has changed his style over the years and music lovers are often accused of asking great producers to stick to the same old sound which seems unfair as they naturally want to try new things. That said, I'd love KDJ to make a few more tracks in this style because he's got the magic ingredients.

'Irresistible' is the only word that comes to mind.

The track "January" is above par. It has an excellent tough bass line which coexists perfectly with the female vocal sampling. I played this once over a system with four Cerwin Vega "EarthQuake" speakers and it was really exciting. Cheers.

Nice 4-tracker. A1 is a deep dirty track that would be great in a warehouse party in mid-winter. A2 is a funky deep rework of "Give Me The Night" by George Benson. On the flipside, B1 is a sax-driven almost disco-house track around mid tempo, perhaps a nice warm-up or filler tune but still very good, although it never really hits its straps, teasing you right up until the very end. To finish up, A2 is better than coffee and biscuits, a nice funky driving track with a Macy Gray style vocal. I love these types of records with a little bit of something for everyone instead of some crappy remixes. 4 out of 5

Whooo. This is it! If you only have 2 Moodyman recs "Silent Introduction" for starters. This would be a must. Winter Breeze is just that, it sends shivers down your spine. January is much warmer, with a thick ass baseline. Smokers and dancers alike will love this. It was repressed in 2001, so you may be able to find some copies with the plastic wrap still on it. You can hear samples on Groovetech.
