Planet Patrol's "Play At Your Own Risk" was recorded on the same night as "Planet Rock", using the same multitrack tape as a base. But while it was born of the same futuristic 808 beats that launched electro into the minds of suburban youth around the world, the track had a decidedly different feel. Robie, Baker and company planted mesmerizing orchestral sounds and yearning, melancholic vocals into the mix.

It was the bridge between the doo-wop harmonies of Motown's heyday and the emerging planet's of electro and freestyle - in fact, Planet Patrol was originally a vocal quintet from Boston called "The Energetics".

"Play At Your Own Risk" was the track of choice for millions of breakdancers using cardboard mats as springboards to whirl and propel themselves towards the sky in a hypnotic mass of funk and energy.

Hip Hop has never again reached such heights of diversity and originality.
