To me, This James Brown release is no where beyond any other. It was recorded in '68 when Brown moved from the soul/twist inspired style to the more harder Funk (thus disband the Famous Flames and assembled The J.B's). But to cut to the chase, it's THE James Brown release every funk collector should own. "There Was A Time" is the rawest, hardest and most real institutional record testimented to Funk by the creator. It brings energy like no other funk record out there and it's quite simply untouchable on every point. Play it every time in my sets.
