Reviews & Discussion

This little masterpiece is a perfect early incarnation of jungle, and an expertly produced one at that. The breaks and the bass sound very sharp and clear for the time (on both mixes of The Bee, with slight advantage for the original). Actually this track is an early example of the UK hardcore sound, but as it lacks the typical thick synth sounds and is arranged more spartanly, it already points towards jungle, alongside early Shut Up & Dance.
There's also an experimental twist to the sounds used. The theme sample in The Bee is a 'bee' sound probably out of one of The Scientist's synths. The recordings of a baby talking and crying are used to stunning effect on My First Memory; they fit in very well into this spherical, melancholy techno tune.
