Headman’s second album, _On_, comes across much stronger than his debut. For one thing, he has a more definite point-of-view here that helps bind together the tracks. The 80s-electro throwback might be somewhat of a cliché now ("So Disgraceful" attests to this), but Headman still breathes some life into it. The rock howling on “Suspect!” or the stealthy darkwave of “Roh” shows there’s a single side to the decade. The rockabilly drive of “Moisture” fits with the raunchy lyrics perfectly, while the new wave stylings of "Freedom Drums" captures the post-disco mood to a tee. Headman blends 80s dance with a rock bass in an intriguing way -- "Upstart" and "Everybody" groove along pleasantly, the latter with a tongue-in-cheek self-reference. Quite nifty.
