The original mix of "Room With A View" is a brilliant example of space trance, high-tech yet wistful. The pulsating electro riff underpinning the track reminds you of some tracks by the 80s synth bands, like Laserdance - Humanoid Invasion, but at much higher velocity: 140 bpm, compared to the typical 128 of the 80s. An excellent track to stream down the highway at breakneck speed to.
The Kuffdam & Plant Mix is just a tad slower (138 bpm), but it more than makes up for it with the buildup. Slowly and relentlessly the track inches you to the brink of the abyss, and when you finally plunge into it, you wish the fall would never end. And for a while it seems like like it won't. A classic blend of progressive and epic!
On the B side sees the change of pace from hectic to pensive with "Momente". Despite having the same bpm as the "Room With A View", it has a distinctively introspective mood, highlighted by the occasional spashes of the electric guitar. "On The Other Side"'s title is in a way a reference to A2; the track is as impetuous, but darker and more forceful. It ends the EP on a desolate note, which makes me with it were on the A side instead, and A1 should take its place.
One of the best records of 2006.
