Haldolium have made some amazing basslines in their days, and the one they pull off here has to be considered one of their very best. It's like it has two layers, and at least one of them sounds like it's got some freaky chorus effect on it. It reminds me a bit of the one in "Plusminus" from their album H2, but even better. The result is very warm and rolling. I swear I could listen to just the kick and bass from this track for the length of the entire track without getting bored. But the Haldolium duo didn't stop at that, even though their remix is the one thats the most faithful to the original. It's slightly toned down and focuses more on atmosphere, while having improved a brilliant bassline to something truly remarkable. The other remixes of this track turns it into something different, while Haldolium try to improve what is already there; It sounds like mission impossible but I actually think they've pulled it off. It's not harder or heavier or more jawdropping but it has this wonderful feelgood vibe to it that the original lacks somewhat.
The only remix that never really appealed to me is the one from Peak Pilots. It's much drier than the original, which is quite reverb drenched. As I'm a sucker for atmospheres and big reverbs, I found this track lacking something. But I think the percussion is weaker too, much more generic. The bass is quite impressive - not in depth (leave that to the Elmshorn badboys) but in thickness and throb-factor. Only a few elements from the original remain here, mainly the female voice sample ("The Only Process.... Vitalizer", or something like that). The track doesn't feel like it's going anywhere for the first 4 or so minutes. I've never been into druggy music really, but there is some nuttiness going on here with the weird effects and the percussion. That sort of stuff has to be executed very well to appeal to me, like in the Prime Time Plastix EP on Plastik Park (PARK004). Towards the end it's pretty interesting since there are so many sounds involved, but it feels a little uninspired nonetheless.
Conclusion: Worth every penny for the Haldolium remix, it's really brilliant. I find the Peak Pilots one somewhat hard to enjoy.
