There’s something really pleasing about techno done well, and with that, Hardfloor returns to form in SO WHAT?! It doesn’t pretend to be intelligent or progressive; it just is what it is: hard, fast, made to make you move. That’s not to say that there aren’t flashes of musical pleasure to be had in here (like the dark breaks on “Frozen Spotlight”), but it’s purpose is clear: this is techno for the floor. So go ahead and enjoy the blip-beats of “Smash the Gnat” or the classic Hardfloor TB-styling on “Dear McBain” or “Dog in the Manger.” They’ve still got it, all these years later.
