This album is the peak of the Berlin electronic dub movement for me, developing the Basic Channel / M Series blueprint into a twitching, terse selection of soundscapes bound together by monstrous sub basslines and abstract pops. The warmth that Pole was able to achieve with what might be described as "glitches" is astounding, made with a faulty 4-Pole filter (hence the name) run through springy reverbs and analogue delay effects.
Its worth listening to this on headphones, in a relaxing place, all the way through (I used to wander around the Tate Gallery which worked quite well). Its a completely rewarding experience.
