When you are a serious music lover, the moments when your jaw drops are actually quite rare. But then again, those are the moments you really remember. I can not put into words the mind blowing feeling when I first heard the TNT remix of 'Drug Related Stories'. It was about a year ago, I was driving, and I had Hardfloor's 'Tales Of The Unexpected' compilation playing, and boom! There it was. One of the greatest acid house tunes I've ever encountered. So utterly vicious, so powerful, the cowbells and 909s hitting hard, and the 303s frenzy that just makes your eardrums bleed because you wanna blast this one loud. At the beginning I had no idea who had made this because I didn't have the booklet of the CD case with me. I was thinking "what is this? This must be a classic but why haven't I heard this before."
Well, as it turned out, this isn't a classic or even that well known release after all, apart from among the techno purists. But it is a crime against humanity. I don't know if this was a hyped and sought-after record when it was released years ago. I don't know, I don't care. The original versions by Mr. Wilson are fine if you're into the proper 80s style analogue acid techno but for me they do very little. It's all about the remix. The sad part is that the record is rare, and no digital release available, hence a hefty price tag. But if you want my prediction, this one will be repressed or re-released at some point. This is so significant that other than techno purists should be able to enjoy this.

So I spend a few years off from buying records, going to clubs, and generally ignoring dance music while I am trying to sober up and find some new employment to support my family. When I finally come back I am fully expecting Trance to still be ruling the roost when it comes to electronic music, but find out I am wrong and learn that Minimal and Dub Techno are getting all the hype. So I bought a Deep Chord set for big money thinking I am catching up and find it to be disappointing and find that it can not hold a candle to the old colored vinyl 12s of theirs I have...

I read on an online retailers website that this Drug Related Stories thing lives up to the hype that has been building for months and months. Wait, what hype? I hadn't read a thing about it until it came out and didn't hear a sound clip until well after it was out. Doesn't matter though. Jared Wilson's latest record is so good it could take on all they hype given to Deep Chord, Gerald Hanson, any echospace [Detroit], Perlon, or M_nus release for the last five years and the next five years. The A side has two Acid (almost) House tracks that make you bounce your head and weave to the beat...And listen closely to the vocal sample. The B side is absolutely horrifyingly good, if those words can actually be used in that order to effectively describe it. Tadd Mullinix and Todd Osborn absolutely abused me and my eardrums so badly I felt the need to call Child Protective Services on them for the effect it may of had on my children's future.

If you see this one pick it up. It really doesn't matter what the price tag says, because it is worth it.
