For the past several years, Masters at Work have been exploring their Latin roots; on Brazilian Beat, they take it way, way down south. But it doesn’t quite go all the way. The track has that marvelous percussion that makes Brazilian music unique and the vocals by Lilliana add yet another layer of percussion. On the Body ‘n’ Soul Mix, though, the vocals aren’t always in sync with the music, which is jarring. Kenny’s NuYorican Beats offers little more than that. The two extra tracks, “Nebulosa” and “Bob,” however, give glimpses into where Brazilian music has been and where it’s going.
