Patrick Wolf - Lycanthropy Review by techsoul Jul 23, 2008

referencing Lycanthropy, CD, Album, tom 37

Patrick Wolf somehow manages to use experimental electronica and harsh, distorted beats as the cornerstone for a wonderfully modern vision of British Folk music. But the electronics aren't just there to sound 'different' or 'avantgarde' - they really 'click' with the traditional instruments and become a bunch of songs you'll remember.

'Lycanthropy' seems to circle around the experience of adolescence when it tells the story of a boy who slightly becomes a wolf. Sung with impressive vocal talent, the lyrics are strange, poetic and mature - I still can't get my head around the fact that Patrick Wolf was only 20 years old when he wrote and recorded this emotional rollercoaster ride, also playing many of the instruments himself! Touching and personal, this album transmits its artists identity with every second. You'll either love it or hate it for that.

As creative and deeply original as Björk when it comes to combine traditional music with modern day electronics, Patrick Wolf is a multi-talented genius to be watched in the future.
