Aux 88 - Is It Man Or Machine Review by shapeshifter Mar 17, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)

referencing Is It Man Or Machine, 2x12", EP, DB4W-022

The track "My mind goes into programming" has a funny bar structure in that it seems to flip the 1 with the 3 several times along with the changes of the main riff - or one of the riffs was programmed with a terrible lack of feel and groove. Still can't figure this out after 10 years. Well, maybe they were influenced by Vinnie Colaiuta's solo work at the time ;-) This one, "I need to freak" and the title track stand out, the rest (to me) are just fillers and standard Aux 88 "Tour de France" clones.

The CD version has many tracks from other EPs added and sounds crisper, but the vinyl has more presence.

Aux 88 - Is It Man Or Machine Review by shapeshifter Mar 17, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)

referencing Is It Man Or Machine, CD, Album, DBCD-2

The CD version adds many tracks from other EPs to the vinyl album and sounds crisper and cleaner, but the vinyls had more presence and pressure. "Black Planet" here lacks the strange female vocal snippet of the original, which makes it a bit more serious but also more dull. Finally, with several B-side tracks omitted, this CD can not replace a collection of all those vinyls in any way.

Aux 88 - Is It Man Or Machine Review by rednutz Aug 29, 2003

referencing Is It Man Or Machine, 2x12", EP, DB4W-022

Devastating Detroit electro from Keith Tucker and Tommy Hamilton featuring the powerful wall shaking bass of 'I Need to Freak', Kraftwerkian powerhouse 'Is It Man Or Machine' and the ode to the process of deriving sound from exotic metal boxes with 'My Mind Goes Into Programming'.
