Jesper Dahlbäck - Stockholm Mix Sessions Review by KidJ Oct 22, 2004 (edited over 5 years ago)

referencing Stockholm Mix Sessions, CD, MARCD-004, MARCD00042

Just listened to this mix after finally buying it, so here's my synopsis.
Ever since I started DJing myself I had always been looking for an ideal - apart from Jori Hulkkonen of course - I could orientate my learning and style on. I think I might've found it now: the track selection on this CD is probably the deepest to be encountered on any commercial DJ-Mix, transporting a slightly weird but incredibly warm and organic atmosphere. The tracks perfectly fit together and - a criterium that's often being ignored! - are also excellent to listen to seperately. So we're talking about quality music here and I'm really glad to already own several records that appear on this release because I'm planning to actually track them all down.
As for the mixing technique there's not really much to say, just that it's better than perfect! Most people - including me - probably thought that The Timewriter's "Deep Train" is the best one amongst modern House music mixes to date - wrong! Jesper Dahlbäck demonstrates that Deep House music can be mixed in a literally breathtaking way that will give you the goosebumps! The tension curve's also amazing and finds its climax in Hulkkonen's classic "Let Me Luv U" - brilliant!!
Honestly, this is exactly how I want to sound like when I'm mixing records. The cover- and booklet-artwork are also of impressive beauty, by the way. Perfection no matter what you look at or listen to.
So - the best Deep House Mix ever...? Without a doubt if you're asking me!!
