Technasia & DJ Skull - Passages Vol. 1 Review by maroko Apr 23, 2008
This is such a fantastic release I can hardly believe I just recently picked it up. What on Earth was I waiting for?
Quite a few years ago, during a party in Slovenia, in the famous "Ambasada Gavioli" club, I heard Acid Wiss "L", but back then I had no idea whatsoever it was DJ Skull's work I was pumping my fist to. I immediately fell in love with the track, but was standing pretty far away from the DJ, and just didn't feel like making my way through the crowd and asking him what tune did he just drop.
"It's gonna be easy tracking it down..." I thought to myself.
Years passed and I completely forgot about it.
A few weeks ago I was playing Sven Vath's "Sound Of The Third Season" and thought how amazing Technasia's Acid Storm was. I kept going back to the track a lot, and really hoped that a full version had an unmixed vinyl printing. As soon as I came across a copy of Passages Vol. 1, it was an instant blind buy. Having read the track is actually a remix of an old DJ Skull number only increased the anxiosity. I couldn't wait to get the 12" delivered to my house!
I don't think you, dear reader, can even come near to imagining my joy when I discovered that Technasia's Acid Storm is a re-work of the afore mentioned DJ's Acid Wiss "L", which blew my out of my frame years ago!!! I thought to myself what could the odds be of Technasia redoing and reinterpreting that particular track out of the extensive Ron Maney discography. Well, I guess all good things happen to those who wait!
WOW! No matter how raw, dance friendly and wicked Technasia's bomb is, DJ Skull's epic acid techno tune is a vintage monster. It was released 13 years ago, but my does it rock. It has a really long and strong build up, before unleashing a rabid acid synth at around 04:50 into the track, there is another breakdown followed by one more, this time a lil' more percussive build up, and then the final showdown with a full frontal acidic assault. Timeless, really timeless music here, which bridges generations and evolving music styles and eras. No doubt from me, I give both tracks here a 5/5.
Oh yeah, and the vinyl mastering is ace, just in case you were wondering.
