DJ Rap - Up All Night - 24-Sep-08 02:43 PM
This album sounds very organic and is characterised by warm sounds and synth lines. Slots in some interesting and cleverly eq'd guitars as well on tracks such as "High Octane". Tracks such as "Stratosphere" and "A Strange Paradise" even add some trance and detroit influences. The end track lives up to it's title but THE standout track of the album for me is the colab with Top Cat; "Informer" is a vocal anthem and the bassline really fires..Worth the purchase for this track alone.
UNKLE - 26-Dec-07 07:11 AM
James Lavelle is the heart and soul of the Unkle projects and albums. Organising and working with an all-star cast James has produced some of the best musical works of recent times. Unkle has managed to transform itself from album to album; spoiling listeners with a blend of hip hop, breaks, rock and cinematic pieces. Genre or style is not important to Unkle but simply the goal to create great original music where there is a large void.. The Unklesounds live, mixes and edits are also magnificent; there is too much to recommend here but the standard of every release is consistently excellent. In addition to the music Unkle keeps itself interesting with extra material, unconventinal merchandise and cool artwork. The most recent CD album "War Stories" has a hidden bonus track at the end of the album as if the golden collaborations with Josh Homme, Ian Astonbury & Gavin Clark were not enough! Check it out UNKLE is KING!
High Contrast - 04-Jul-07 04:25 PM
When compared to most current d+b artists he seems good..But I would say that most of his material offers no lasting appeal at all. His remixes are poorly crafted..Stupidly simple workouts..adds beats and speeds up originals? Also notice the pick of commercial tracks to ensure their sale and success. Woah ! Reality check. Generally abismal artist. Whose most accomplished work remains to be "Global love". Heavily reliant on other material and people to make "his" tunes. Definately Drum and Bass for younger audiences.
