DJ Lady Dana* - Heroes Of Hardcore - 18-Mar-08 08:24 AM
I know this is a big call, but this is THE best hardcore mix CD ever made! These days mix CDs are done on CDJs and a number of computer programs which even clearly edited original tracks. Not this one, made in 1996, this seems to have been done with two turntables, a mixer and copious amounts of talent. Quite simply, every mix is perfection, she easily puts most hardcore djs to shame. The most perfect mix is Feel the Rhythm to Out Of Control, both are Stunned Guys remixes with the same drum, pure skill! She even successfully mixes a track out of Chosen Paradise, this particular track "double beats" at the end, no way would I mix out of it that late, yet Lady Dana does it with ease, brilliant! The CD comprises of hardcore gabber from 1996, a favourite era for me, so the tracks are great by themselves in particular 9MM and Don't Waste Your Time which was written by five people! There are two other Heroes Of Hardcore CDs from this period, the Buzz Fuzz one which is highly recommended for both mixing and track selection (although not as good as this one) and the inferior Weirdo CD which is OK but clearly shows why Lady Dana is a superior dj.
Bedroom hardcore djs take note: Get this CD and learn to mix from it!!
Karim - Kenmore 2427 / Everybody - 01-Dec-07 02:52 AM
Kenmore 2427 refers to the partial address in Brisbane of my friend DJ K-Live. I have been there, it is a nice house! Karim used to send K-Live white labels and test pressing of his latest tunes, which K-Live played much to the annoyance of the hard house and hard nrg djs at the time! I guess the address got stuck in Karim's head, and became a song title. It's not the only Queensland reference made by Karim: Port Douglas is a resort town in North Queensland and Wet N Wild is a popular water fun park on the Gold Coast.
Lukey Luke & The Mikey Bunch - Untitled - 01-Dec-07 02:32 AM
This is the infamous "I Wanna Fuck A Spice Girl" track that Spellbound thrashed at the end of his sets in the late 90's. Some well known djs like Hixxy and Buzz Fuzz got copies of this record and played it accordingly in their countries. Somehow the record company of the Spice Girls found out about this track and started making enquiries into Execution Records, not surprisingly Spellbound and Mikey (the owners of Execution Records) shut down the label shortly afterwards. The track was written by Spellbound, Mikey and The Bezerker. I once saw Bezerker play this track live at a System 6 party in 1998, which was odd compared to the full on speedcore stuff he's known for. The Karaoke Mix is an instrumental version of the track. Beethoven and Sucka are both ok tracks but not that exciting. The vocals for WannaFuk were done by Mc No3, a legendary Mc of the Brisbane rave scene, these days he's better known as Mc Shureshock and regularly appears alongside Kid Kenobi, a very popular breakbeat DJ from Sydney.
Various - Best Of Scott Brown '96 - 06-May-07 01:03 AM
A nice Scott Brown compliation including all his big tracks at the time and was released during his Australian tour in 1996. However the best part of this CD is the last six tracks which are beautifully mixed by the best hardcore dj I've ever heard, Jen-E. This type of flawless mixing is what inspired me to become a dj.
Nasenbluten - Dog Control - 02-Apr-06 03:18 PM
The Bloody Fist 22 Sampler which was only shipped with the first 120 copies of Dog Control sold from Bloody Fist HQ in Newcastle is actually a limited white label of infamous Australian football player, Warrick Capper! I spoke to Mark N of Bloody Fist about this and he received the white labels from somebody and thought it was good idea to release after the expensive issues surrrounding Bloody Fist 22, which is still available if you're willing to swim in the E-Coli friendly waters of Newcastle Harbour. However I'm not sure if Mr Capper was sampled on one of the tracks of Fist 22 as Cold Hate is the only track known to be played from 5-6 track EP and fortunately it doesn't sample Warrick's pisspoor singing skills.
