Various - Elektronische Musik - Interkontinental 3 - 18-Oct-09 03:54 PM
While this is a very good minimal house compilation overall, without a lesser track to be found, one piece stands out amongst the rest. Oliver Hackes "Lächel" is a stunning electronic composition. On a par with Closer Musiks "Maria" (and thats saying something), the track slowly builds and crescendos with a glorious minimal and melodic grace. You can always tell when a song is in the highest class when it crosses over to people who dont listen to that particular genre. Many friends of mine dislike techno but love this song. Absolutely blew my mind upon release and like "Maria", it holds up unbelievably still. Easily one the best tracks of the era.
Justus Köhncke - Doppelleben - 28-Jul-05 09:16 PM
Im not exactly sure why this album has such a low rating; its a very well rounded album from Justus. Maybe people just bangers and ambient from Kompakt releases. People seem to love his singles, why not the albums? Anyway, Doppelleben has awesomely funky tracks like "Elan" and an edit of "Timecode", eerie soundscapes in "Mu Arae" and "Loreley" and of course, lost of good technopop. Everyone know Justus is a pop-loving romantic. If you dont like that theres a few familar titles from his previous singles, well, theyre all different versions. I love a straight ambient or propulsive techno Kompakt album as much as anyone, but Im glad they release albums like Doppelleben too.
Various - Receiving Data.....Ah, It's Coming! - 29-Mar-04 11:27 AM
In keeping with the cover/title, there seems to be a "static or interference" type of sound to many tracks, which is not as bad as it sounds. This cd gets better every time I listen to it. Listenable and moving.
Shifted Phases - The Cosmic Memoirs Of The Late Great Rupert J. Rosinthrope - 19-Aug-03 09:02 PM
You really need to give this one a few spins... after that it sinks in, and its obvious that this album rocks. Nobody ever told Miles to start playing a guitar, so Stinson & Co. shouldnt be criticized for sticking with what works. If youre disappointed with the recent "modern" Drexciya lps, try this. Instant sleeper classic.

"Oh My Love" seals the deal for me, a gorgeous gentle electronic lullaby. Anyone who enjoyed ISANs remix of "Goodnight Lovers" should love this track, and if you care for the mans angelic voice at all, pick this up.
