Dan Andrei - Just Music - 11-Oct-08 04:52 AM
This record has sampled the entire speech of the B-Side off SUBX-01, DJ Bone - Music, released in 2005 on Subject Detroit Records.

Message from Bone:

'I license to people, labels and projects where I see fit but to use my shit (not even sampling it but the whole thing just over their track) without even asking me was & is jacked-up (way wrong).

This is just to let everyone know that I NEVER gave them permission to use my vocals, have never even heard of the label and was never approached by anyone from Be Chosen.

Needless to say I am not very happy about this and action is being taken. Any help you can give me by spreading the word about this label and what they did would be very helpful! They don't know me or how I conduct business...'

Circle Takes The Square - As The Roots Undo - 10-Oct-08 06:36 AM
Before I got into Electronic music, I was obsessed with Rock and Metal, and this band along with Dillinger Escape Plan and Tool were the ones who stood out for me the most when I look back.

This album is intense. People like to refer to the style as "Screamo Metal" and you can see why, as the opening four songs give you little room to breathe. However, there are some beautifully melodic moments, notably on the second half of the album, with my highlights being "Interview at the Ruins" and "Kill the Switch".

The musicianship is also very impressive, even more so as there are only three members. Nowadays, I find it difficult to listen to all the way through, but still give it a 5 because it provided me with with so many good moments in the past.

If you like it, I recommend Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity as well.

Oxia vs. Hacker, The / Len Faki* / Eric Borgo - Good Life 14 EP - 09-Oct-08 10:40 AM
I can't believe "Freaky Games" hasn't been released as an A-side. This tune makes me dance whenever I put it on, regardless of my mood. I haven't even heard the other two songs on this, but am going to get the vinyl just for Borgo's effort.

I first heard it on Laurent Garnier's Excess Luggage, and eventually found an own version on the Goodlife Volume 1 Compilation. A must have house tune!! Nice one Good Life.

Technical Itch - Diagnostics - 13-Aug-08 03:05 AM
Diagnostics is a dark, gritty, underground drum ‘n’ bass album. It is great for what it is, but won’t appeal to all listeners of the genre. There is hardly any sign of melody or keyboards and the occasional computerised vocals create a sinister feel. The beats are crunchy and raw and the structure to each song is well thought out. This is most definitely an album, not just a collection of tunes (like a lot of dnb LPs) which makes it difficult to pick out a stand out track. Equally hard is to find a song that lets the album down.
You won’t here many of these tracks at a club; you’re more likely to hear the album stuck on repeat in a basement of a house party. Technical Itch is an excellent producer and DJ (just listen to Killa Bites II) and has proved with this album that he is also a very good creator of drum ‘n’ bass. Not for the faint hearted, but if you’re into the darkside, you’ll love it.

Matrix - Sleepwalk - 13-Aug-08 02:59 AM
Sleepwalk is a typical drum n bass album. The beats are tight and it contains some tunes that will sound decent in a live set. But that’s about it. There isn’t anything very new about this release and it lacks originality. Released on Virus in 2000, the sound is very similar to Ed Rush’s Wormhole, who came up with the idea two years before. It’s dark and has some clever bass lines, but the range of the style of songs is limited. Temperament, Six and Apache are the stand out tracks and they still sound good eight years on. Perhaps releasing an album came a bit too early for Matrix. This album cut down to six songs on three 12” maybe would have been a better idea. Although, having said all that, there isn’t anything that bad with this album, it just isn’t one that will stay in the mind for that long. Worth having if you’re into the drum n bass, but if you never hear it, you’re not really missing out on anything special.
