Jeff Mills - Waveform Transmission Vol. 3 (Detroit Cut) - 27-Apr-06 02:30 AM
The mastering on this particular vinyl is excellent. Unfortunately the plates of the cut were not useable for mass production so only a few hundred copies of this exist as whitelabel. The final Tresor.76 was re-cut in Berlin with slightly different sound again and a different version of "Life Cycle".

Jeff Mills - The Purpose Maker - 27-Apr-06 01:12 AM
This single (possibly with a few others) sparked a whole new era in techno - it consists of hard and dry Roland TR-909 drumbeats with small filtered loops of classic tribal and funky percussive disco records layered over it. The only effect used is some filtering and small delay on the loops that are faded and mixed over time. The "Purpose Maker" label became a whole new sucsess story at the turn of the century for Jeff Mills, with sales quickly overturning those of his original "Axis" imprint. Many DJs and recording artists have been greatly influenced by this style at the time, for example Deetron, User, Ben Sims, Samuel L. Session.

Jeff Mills - If / Tango - 24-Apr-06 12:37 AM
The Track "Tango" has been sitting in a drawer for at least five years before getting a full release on this single, a small snippet of it can be heard on the Axis 008 "Cycle 30" 12", released 1994. Mills used a small rhythm part of "Tango" for one of the locked grooves there. Funky, percussive drums with hypnotising bass sequences.

Christopher Just - Brand New Good For You - 06-Dec-05 09:10 AM
C. Just re-captures the "original rave sounds" used by Underground Resistance on their early works, such as "Riot EP", "Rings of Saturn", "Punisher", "World Power Alliance", with the right amount of humour and respect. The loops on the B-Side are all the elements of the main track, cut as locked grooves. The cut was done by Robert Henke ("Monolake") in a tricky manual procedure. He had to put down the cutting tool exactly 1.80 seconds to create a loop on the vinyl master. After this exhausting job, the guys "invented" a modification for the cutting machine at the mastering place "Dubplates and Mastering", so nowadays all locked grooves there are cut 100% perfect.

Laurent Garnier - Crispy Bacon (Jeff Mills Remix) - 30-Oct-05 11:23 PM
Laurent Garniers Original Mix is very wellknown for its driving "accelerating" bassline sound, a sure shot on the dancefloor. About halfway into the track the breakdown drives people insane, still with that very same sound, not a bit cheesy. Jeff Mills RARELY does any remixes (about 5 in total in his solo carrer) and he turns the original smash into serious thunder. Ultra-hard TR-909 distorted kickdrums, lots of reverb and filtered delay effects make this a somewhat rare and worthwile appearance. This pressing was sold out within a month and still fetches high prices as a collectors item.
