Boards Of Canada - Trans Canada Highway - 01-Jul-06 05:45 AM
The Odd Nosdam remix sounds a lot like when I was young, lying on a grassy hill, and I could hear airplanes flying over me in the far distance. It's quite powerful, especially if you grew up in a peaceful, small Canadian city, like I did. The ability Boards Of Canada (and, it seems, Odd Nosdam also!) has for capturing the care-free, curious emotions of my youth constantly amazes me. It is hard to believe they are not living inside my head.

Boards Of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy - 30-Jun-06 04:26 PM
This video is intensely beautiful. It uses the sounds of Dayvan Cowboy to enhance the emotional impact of the video in exactly the right ways. For example, the bit just after the protagonist is finished falling through the clouds, we see the vast, open, free sky with the perfect musical accompaniment of the guitar notes. After that, the cymbal rush during the protagonist's fun/free surfing gives me shivers I have never gotten from any other video. It's sort of hard to describe what I mean here directly with words, considering emotion is not equal to English. The best way to find out what I mean would be to try watching the video for yourself.

Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi - 30-Jun-06 04:26 PM
This is one of the most powerful albums one could stumble upon. I'm always telling my friends (over the 'net) about tracks on this album as I listen to it, and am dismayed at my inability to describe what I'm feeling. The feelings I get from Geogaddi are often nostalgic, yearning, and some other emotions that have yet to be named.

Have you ever been camping completely in the wilderness, and been woken up early in the morning by voices outside your tent? Have you noticed how the voices sound when you're in that half-awake state? That's the sort of state that is best to be in when listening to Geogaddi. Half-asleep with enhanced dream perception, that is.

By the way, Geogaddi is definitely incomplete without the last track. I can't imagine listening to it without From One Source All Things Depend. Perhaps I was spoiled, but it just seems perfectly-placed. The other Geogaddi releases seem naked without it.

Mendelayev - Xpom - 02-Jun-05 11:03 PM
This is quite literally the best IDM/DnB album I've ever heard. Its lush, beautiful soundscapes, highly detailed programming, and extremely memorable melodies make it stand out far beyond any electronic music I've set my ears, mind, and heart to. I get many shivers of emotion throughout listening to Xpom. Here is a dazzling piece of art not to be missed.

Venetian Snares - Infolepsy EP - 21-Mar-05 04:26 AM
To me, this EP seems like an extension of one of my personal favourite Venetian Snares albums, Higgins Ultra Low Track Glue Funk Hits 1972-2006. It contains the same style of ever-changing breaks with interesting, well-placed samples. This is definitely an EP for enjoyment, so enjoy.
