Reviews & Discussion:
GREAT mix CD. Good for those who like electro, funk, and french house. "Me and Madonna" is probably one of the best house tracks I've heard in a long time... Wishing for a copy of it. There's plenty of good stuff on here. Definitely worth it.
I ran across digital emotion for the first time about two decades after the majority of their releases...
Irresistably catchy electro/disco, italodisco, whatever you want to call it... They're part of what turned me on to disco. It's mindless, it's cheesy, but who cares- these weren't meant to be brilliant artistic pieces. These still serve their purpose, even today- fun, mindless dance music. It's hard to choose favourites, but if I had to- it's a toss-up between "Go Go Yellow Screen" "Time" and "Get Up Action." If you like 80s music, disco, electro/electroclash, retro... these are definitely worth a look.
Yoji Biomehanika

I wasn't big on hardstyle until I came across Yoji Biomehanika's Live at Dance Valley 02 CD... I was simply amazed at how infectious it was. The mixes were flawless and creative, using strategic beat juggling and scratching to keep things interesting. Yoji's a great showman, incredible dj, fantastic producer and remixer, and is one of the few djs who translates extremely well to CD.
Bang on, Yoji- you are the shit.
Various - Y4K FreQ Nasty - Next Level Breaks
Oct 15, 2003
This is absolutely one of the finest breakbeat mixes I've ever heard. FreQ's Y4K is a fine mix of reggae, nuskool, electro, hip hop, and dub flavours- one which definitely surpasses the intimidating standards of the Y4K series. This disc is dripping with soul and funk, refreshingly original, and inventive. Darin McFayden is a massive force in the NuSkool front, and this Y4K disc is exactly why.
Envy - The Faith EP

All hail Martin Villeneuve- with releases like this, it's no wonder why Yoshitoshi and Shinichi dominate progressive house. It's increasingly rare to find an EP where every side is worth buying individually. Ali and Sharam used "Faith (Original Jericho Mix)" to close out Global Underground 021: Moscow- and had people waiting in suspense for it's release over a year later. However "Everytime" is every bit as powerful- a massive dubby progressive house track that doesn't quit. The two remixes have a different taste but still the same Shinichi flavour that we can't get enough of.
G-Pal
Jun 16, 2003
Few artists can come through time and time again with music that is creative, innovative, experimental, yet always hit the mark. G-Pal has a style that is constantly moving in all directions, however staying true to his deep and soulful sound. House artists around the world keep an ear tuned to his mixes and an eye out for his latest tracks. G-Pal is infinitely talented in producing tracks that continue to take your breath away even after you've worn out two copies of them already. If it says G. Pallikaris on the label, it's sure to be a "must-have."
Shinichi
Jun 09, 2003
Shinichi is simply amazing- it seems as if every release is a 'must have' for any househead. The energy and depth of this label makes it one of the few I would buy from without first extensively hearing every track. Yoshitoshi and Shinichi are simply unstoppable, and show no signs of slowing down even after over a hundred releases between them. Loudeast, G-Pal, Chab, and Behrouz need no introduction; yet even though the other names may not be as legendary, the tracks they produce certainly are.
Rennie Pilgrem

Rennie is a musical genius- there is no way around saying it. His remixing and production skills are only surpassed by his creativity. The son of a Jazz trumpeter, Rennie has extreme fluency with all styles of music ranging from dub to rock. His unique style manifests itself in the most legendary breakbeat of all time- Black Widow, Paranoia, Somewhere, A Place Called Acid, and Blowpipe naming just a few of his definitive contributions to breaks. His discography is a textbook of breakbeat artists of today and tomorrow.
King Tubby
Jun 08, 2003
Jamaica- birthplace of the 'remix' and some of the world's most talented musicians, King Tubby among them. His legendary studio produced countless brilliant dubs, many of which would never see the outside world. His talent for remixing and remastering earned him worldwide fame and recognition, which survived his assassination in a robbery attempt outside of his Waterhouse home in February 6, 1989. The list of artists he influenced is innumerable, many not even discovering his amazing work until after his tragic death. Osbourne "King Tubby" Ruddock will forever reign on the throne of Dub, and is truly a legendary musician. He left his mark upon the world of electronic dance music, arguably before it even existed.
