Jazz & The Brothers Grimm - Casanova - 20-May-07 12:05 PM
For me, Casanova by Jazz And The Brothers Grimm was one of the finest tracks from those heady late eighties / early nineties days.
Whilst people were even then turning out turgid dance pop cover versions, such as Undercover's Baker Street, this, whilst still being a cover version of Coffee's original, was much harder, the production was of the highest order, and a floorfiller to boot!
Power tune!
Wood Allen - Airport '89 - 16-May-07 08:14 AM
Thought to be one of the first'rave' tunes of the late eighties, 'Airport 89' was produced by Wood Allen, which was in fact just another alias for the highly productive and prolific Davoli, Limoni and Simplici... better known as Black Box, Starlight, The Mixmaster, Groove Groove Melody etc.etc.!
The synth riff was one of the most instantly recognisable of the late eighties, and coupled with the clever and highly effective aeroplane bassline, hence the 'Airport', the single enjoyed phenonemal success on the better dancefloors around Europe.
Sterling Void - Runaway Girl - 16-May-07 01:14 AM
Sterling Void's masterstroke of a monster 'Runaway Girl' is a classic house tune, and probably, like a lot of the best records of the time, owes it's success to that unforgettable piano riff.
The Korg handclaps sound dated now of course, however, in 1988, they kept you dancing in clubs and discos all over the world!
Lovely song, great production.
Mel & Kim - Showing Out - 15-May-07 06:16 AM
Even though Mel and Kim were a pop act, there's no getting away from the fact that the production on Showing Out is 'stomping'!
Big beats, synth stabs, and tons of reverb made for a track that just dragged you straight to the dancefloor every time, and it still puts a huge smile on my face every time I hear the tune.
Unfortunately, even though the follow-up single 'Respectable' sold many more singles and became No. 1, 'Showing Out', for me, is one of the the finest dance pop records of the eighties.
Seduction - You're My One And Only (True Love) - 01-Mar-06 04:00 AM
In 1989, Clivilles and Coles were big name producers who appeared behind many big tracks of the day, as well as fronting the likes of C Music Factory.
"You're My One And Only True Love" was not really a big hit, but of course, tunes such as this are not destined for the charts, but destined for the dancefloor! Of course, C MF were well crafted in the art of filling dancefloors on both sides of the pond, and everyone wanted to work with them.
Listening again to this tune (Club Mix) is always a pleasure, and for me, it is a extremely well-crafted piece of music, with Seduction's wailing vocals weaving majestically with the driving beats and bass. The synth too is awesome, echoing nicely most of the way through the tune, not at all in a cheesy way!
Long may this remain on my MP3 player!
