Profile: Been into electronic music since '97 but my favorite music era is '91-'93. I love oldskool rave (breakbeat hardcore/jungle especially). Very much into acid, trance from the early 90's and techno from all eras. I used to listen to psy-trance but then it went to shit. Also like italo and disco. A lot of other things too.
Collecting vinyl and DJ'ing in my bedroom since July 2003. I try to avoid filler tracks and mix several styles together.
I always eat my cake when I have it.
Local people, I post on the bmore-electro messageboard:
I usually rate things based on the outstanding tracks so:
5 - absolute genius, a classic. buy on sight
4 - very good, go ahead and buy this. essential for fans of the genre.
3 - average. For fans of the genre/artist.
2 - only useful as a dj tool. unexceptional in every way.
1 - trash. Stay away.
Where my nick came from.
My friend was really big into Pink Floyd and he got a bootleg cd which had techno/trance remixes of Pink Floyd's "Atom Heart Mother". On the cover was a cow. I couldn't remember the name very well so when I referred to it I called it "Atomic Cow".

DMX Krew - 13-Jun-08 02:19 AM
Ed Upton is the best pastiche artist in dance music. Whether it is Cybotron-style electro, old chicago house or even breakbeat rave, he pulls it off with brilliance. Of course his tracks are more than just carbon copies of a formula. He writes beautiful melodies as well. A lot of his tracks can be a little cheesy, especially in the vocal department, but a sense of humor is pretty much required to appreciate it all.
Various - Radius 001 - 04-Jun-08 08:13 AM
If you want "Hypnotic Tango" you should buy this record. It's a really nice, clear pressing. I compared it to the Danica pressing and it was like two different tracks. There was probably some remastering done. The low end is much fatter. And do you really need the instrumental? Half the charm is in the vocal. If you can't play cheese like this then you may as well go for the Carl Craig or Bandulu sampling versions.
As a bonus you will also get two other great italo tracks. "Gimme Love" in particular is a treat. A really hard track that could pass for a recent production.
User (4) - 03 - 04-Oct-07 09:09 AM
The best of the User records. This one eschews the dirty, bass-heavy tribal sound of the other releases in the series for acidy noises. One of the tracks samples "Los Ninos De Los Parque" though it doesn't have the guts to loop the three bars in the original and goes for one bar loop only. There is one track that differs from the rest and has those house/rave throwback stabs and a whispered "you see my pride" sample.
Speedy J - Rise - 04-Jul-06 07:07 AM
I always found Joachem Paap overrated and if I happenned upon this EP unprepared I probably wouldn't think of it again. This is because the real treasure on this EP is buried after three relatively unremarkable offerings and pressed at the wrong speed too. Ok, so Mr. Paap probably intended it this way but after hearing "De-Orbit" in an old LTJ Bukem mix played at 45 I can't listen to it any other way. Was it really supposed to be that slow? At 45 rpm it becomes an incredible, melodic jungle track that prefigures Bukem's own "Music" and especially the Detroit sampling "Atlantis". There's just the right amount of crackle in the breakbeat to give it that underground flavour.
"Tresor" is rather random and "Something For Your Mind" sounds like Speedy J rocking his 909 in an empty basement. Rise has some Detroit synths but sounds dated and rather naked in its production.
Cygnus X - The Orange Theme - 01-Aug-05 09:15 AM
It seems so obvious when you realise it. "Orange Theme" is based on the theme music for the movie "The Clockwork Orange" composed by Wendy Carlos.
