Cocteau Twins - Otherness - 08-Apr-09 06:50 PM
If youre a fan of Global Communications retranslations of Chapterhouse, these 4 remixes are for you. Ambience mixed with the perfect amount of dub and ethereal sounds with just the right amount of substance. the 4 mixes are quite varied in the textures used to create the final product, but all are equal in quality and fit well together on the EP. These are the closest to "proper" remixes CT has ever received. This is an essential 12" for any collector of Cocteau Twins and/or Seefeel music.
Lazonby* - Sacred Cycles - 03-Feb-09 07:29 AM
Although the accolades Mr. Lazonby receives for this track are rightfully deserved, the standout element of the tune should be given proper credit as well. The swooping synth (that is, quite honestly, the real gem) comes from a very old Genesis song called "The Fountain of Salmacis" released on their third LP "Nursery Cryme" from 1971. Pete Lazonby did an excellent job of making this his own, thats for sure ... but credit where credit is due.
AON (2) - Be Yourself - 03-Aug-08 08:09 AM
The "Sub Sub Full On Breakfast Instrumental" played at 45rpms rather than 33rpms (as indicated on the label) is a classic West Coast breakbeat track in the Hardkiss style. That version was hammered by DJ Dan in his live sets in the early and mid 1990s and is featured on one of his cassette mixes from the time ("San Francisco Project 3 - Take A Fix To The Funk"). This is a 12" that is definitely worth owning.
Prince Quick Mix - N.Y.C. Lies In Dust - 26-Aug-07 08:03 AM
The title track heavily samples Siouxsie & The Banshees "Cities In Dust" and the presidential speech from the movie "Independence Day". A classic breakbeat tune if there ever was one. The track "Theyre Among Us" is a stripped down 4/4 version that relies heavily on the SATB sample to move it along. Good for the the time, but the sound is quite dated now.
