Jacky Meurisse - 19-Dec-06 08:54 PM
Shamely, underrated Jacky Meurisse is a crucial figure of the Belgian scene.
From his ebm project such as Signal and SA42 in the early 80's, to underground techno and commercial stuff, the man can do everything.

He is involved in a lot of various project with his personnal qualitative touch.
The common denominator beetween all his projects is a dark atmosphere that he love so much, and like he said, he cant' help himself going this way.
He is personnaly also very nice and humble.

Look at his discography, there is compulsorily a track that you love.
Respect is due.

Modular Expansion - Unit 1 - 04-Nov-06 11:37 PM
Cubes, was a hit at the time,
the theme here used the main sound of Revelation : "First Power", played efficiently.
Quality Belgian techno with an acid zest.
Eliminator is also noticeable with this synth line throughout the track.
But the interrest here is in "Hip In The House", who is a more euro house oriented tune wich I love.
It has been removed to the unit 1 release due to a copyright problem with the Hi Tek 3's "Hip In The House..." vocal sample.
Frank says in a discogs forum that without this sample the track lost his interrest, so it has been replaced afterward by "Tension Dream".
Tension Dream is also a very good track, so you need both editions to have the complete "Unit 1" work.

Mysterious Art - The Omen Part 1 (Remix) - 01-Oct-06 07:46 PM
Definitely a classic.
This record contain probably the best intro ever.
I prefer this version rather than the "Das Omen" one, mostly because of the more effective arrangements.
I like it with or without the Nicole Boeùf and Stephanie Trautmann's captivating vocals, it depends on my mood.
Catchy synth pop or acidic new beat feeling.
I also take delight in slowing the BPM of the instrumental version.

Confetti's - Notre Premier Album - 15-Mar-06 10:39 AM
This album is considered not really new beat by purists, but everytime I listen to: "C Countdown, No, The House Of C or Basic Theme, I really like it.
I think it's the golden mean between commercial and underground, to me these tracks are truly effective.
Serge and Dominic undeniably created their own mixture, that we can also reconize in their other aliases:
"The Maxx" or "Highstreet".
In the late 80's as a teenager i was fan of the Confetti's and yes I have to admit that I'm still not tired of listening this kind of new beat 18 years after.
For example, yesterday I played C Countdown in my car very loud, I felt the pleasure from this BASS!.

LFO - Frequencies - 10-Jan-06 01:38 AM
To me "Frequencies" is one of the more genius electronic album ever made.
I think there is not enough words to say how this work is timeless, very hard to surpass.
The perfect synthesis of electro, house, acid, and techno, everything far ahead of it's time.
It starts with an acid house's pionneers tribute and it ends with a mysterious dark ambient ballad, there is moody but also very effective tunes, downtempo or uptempo.
The sound research is also very important, (huge modular synths and analogical materials) no cliché here.
If you listen this album at one stretch you would only realise that Bell and Varley have been touched by God's blessings.
A Masterpiece!
