Rhino Drum - Underground Sound EP (Disc One) - 24-May-08 02:26 AM
Yeah, as above. This should be a definite addition to your heavy-duty breakbeat collection. Underground Sound is the track of the two. A deep, rumbling growler that builds and builds while all the while, other elements are added to the mix, but without cluttering things up. Everything is held together by a really infectious and snappy b-line, which should prove to be delightful for those B-Boys who are into a bit of Lockin on the dance floor.
D All-Stars - Hot Shit - 23-Jun-07 08:06 PM
The DJ Evil Dee side(2) wins - hands down. A deep and rumbling, bass driven nod-hopping heavy roller of the highest order. Sublime flowstyle from the likes of Big Daddy K and Guru bring the lickness. SADAT X punctuates, sparsely, to deliver the business. Flavored perfectous.
R. Kelly - Did You Ever Think - 04-Jun-07 12:03 AM
Home Alone is the only R. Kelly track I own and will probably be the only R. Kelly track I ever own. Unless youre a fan of his particular brand of pop or the particular genre that his music pampers itself in, you probably wouldn’t listen to his music if he were the last remaining vocal performer on earth, such is the stigmatism attached to owning an R. Kelly record. Most, if not all, of this criticism is probably deserved; after all, some of his releases have been sickly shocking. However, and without any question, this track is not one of them.
There are two things about this track that make it sound so good. The first is the really, really tight production employed, which creates a moody and progressive sound that deftly simmers just beneath the surface creating a sexual tension that builds gently but doesn’t make the mistake of going overboard and boiling dry. The tempo is simply perfect and absolutely guaranteed to get all, and I mean ALL the ladies shaking, period. Ive witnessed it on more than one occasion. If it doesn’t, then I would seriously have to question as to whether they actually had a vagina or not. The second thing that makes this track such a killer is the way the vocals work so well together. The way that both Kelly and Keith Murray (nothing wrong his credentials) vocals compliment each other is nothing short of Hip Hop/R perfection. The dry coarseness of Murrays contrasts superlatively with the sweeter tones of the Kell’s. I can’t really offer anymore than I already have. I’d finish by saying track it down but in all likelihood I know you probably won’t. Never mind. It’s your loss.
Mood II Swing Featuring John Ciafone - I See You Dancing - 20-May-07 04:08 AM
B2: Ohh! Quality deep house track from yesteryear. Sparse, empty and slightly foreboding, which contrasts starkly with the other, more breezier tracks on this release. One for the end of the night when youre starting to feel slightly jaded and faded, and are fast approaching the golden twilight slumber zone.
Bang Bang - Shoot The Model - 19-Jan-07 03:33 PM
A very distinct and decidedly original piece of French eclectic rock/dance crossover that features a vocalist that sounds remarkably like David Bowie. Lyrically, the track -chronicles the lifestyle of a typical Uber-Euro super-model, outlining all the things that are oh-so important to them, such as cigarettes and airport departure lounges, champagne breakfasts and out-takes for lunch, all of which are sung in a rather condescending and disapproving manner. Musically, the track leans more to the rock side of things than the dance floor but the Teen remix helps to provide a degree of shuffleability to the proceedings. However, the danceability factor of this track is irrelevant; a good track doesn’t need dance floor approval to warrant high commendation, the uniqueness alone of this record more than takes care of that.
