True Underground Sound Of Rome, The - Untitled - 23-Nov-07 03:54 AM
Another wonderfull release from these guys, who were very inspired in this period, before turning their creativity towards progressive trancy stuff later in mid-90s, never looked good compared to these early deep productions. This is a deep house jewell, with Secret Doctrine shining from the rest of the ep. It's a very good track, but what makes it really wonderfull is the intro, with the flute work that touches the listener right in the soul. Goa Goa and Experience are dark, while Gladiators is a kind of experiment. The pads are wonderfull and modulated and have sudden breakdown, while the thin beats that drive the track are classy and sound different from the other tracks. It sounds strange at first, but you can appreciate it after a couple of listenings.
Minimal Vision - 2 - 23-Nov-07 03:44 AM
Vertigo is indeed a stand out track! It's so warm and deep, and in my opinion is very detailed and carefully mixed in comparison to the other productions of that time. At least a decade ahead of its time, altough it keeps the typical early 90s flavour.
Cyclops would be another masterpiece of deepness, but unfortunately it sounds awfull, expecially with the low vibes. I've checked about 3 or 4 different vinyls to find one that sounds better, but no way. The track has been pressed bad, and it's a shame.
The rest of the ep is good enough to make this record absolutely a gem, and the long housy suite Sea Bird deserves a citation, very dj friendly with a catchy groove.
Marco Passarani - 22nd Century - 12-Jun-06 06:56 AM
Just discovered this doublepack wich is really stunning. I really didnt expect to hear this stuff from Passarani, who is wellknown doing straight 4/4 techno, sometimes 80s synth-flavoured. This release is rather similar to Richard James or Paradinas stuff. Complex and distorted drum patterns, dark and spooky atmospheres, hysteric beats and fat downtempo cuts. Cant say wich is the best track because all of them have their own life. One of the best work by Marco, the most original for sure.
K2 (5) - Loss Of Gravity - 22-Mar-06 06:49 PM
A really beautifull ep. One of the best on this excellent little roman label that released a few, but hi-quality tunes, following that 'underground' trend that was used in Italy to describe more side, elegant and soft sounds in opposition to the current techno and rave explosion of the era. The best track is the A1 cut, The Journey. A rolling bassline driven track, punched by a fat and deep 4/4 basskick and a gentle and repetitive piano riff. Everything builds up nice, with some emotional and 'distant' pads. A pleasure to the ears, but also very dancefloor friendly. Jewell!
EXperimental - 28-Oct-04 12:21 PM
Shame! No one post comments on this label? It was the one that brought me into Techno. From acid (main production) to breaks (excellent ex-15), from oldskool rave (early stuff) to trance (excellent ex-19 and 25), this released some of the best tunes of the early 90 techno scene. A massive and superb use of distorted acid sounds, bangin' drum machines and stellar atmospheres. The last releases: not the best way to end such a great label.
