Alden Tyrell Featuring Fred Ventura - Memories - 05-Jul-08 01:18 AM
What a fantastic track Alden Tyrell has brought us. My favorite is the instrumental version on the B side (B1). It sounds very vintage Italo disco with the (Linn style) drum beating at a slow 105 bpm. The nice melancholic chords make me want to listen to this track again and again. B2 brings us a more funky/cosmic vocal version of this track. The A side is the more commercial version sung by 80’s Italo coryphée Fred Ventura. Wonderful stuff Maarten, instant classic!

Can I give this album a 6/5 rating please ? Superb Italo-Disco cover album. Sung in Finish they bring us the Italian riviera sound. Now I don't understand a word they are talking about but it's very well produced using the right synthesizers and it sounds funny. Covers in respective order are :
A1 La Bionda: I wanna be your lover A2 Dream Boys : Sensation A3 Den Harrow: Future Brain B1 Brand Image: Are You Loving? B2 Fockewulf 190: Gitano

Most labels compile their CD's with the best tracks first. For this release Ersatz has chosen (in my opinion) to start with the worst and most nerve wrecking tracks reaching it's peak of bad taste with Nicola Kuperus doing her annoying monotone screaming thing. And then "oh score" Solvent & Skanfrom save the show with Expect Delays (reminiscent of early 80's cold wave) and it get's better from there on with Charles Manier imitating the Liaisons Dangereuses drum sound as the albums highlight. So I would give it a five if it weren’t for those 5 annoying first tracks.

This VHS compilation could be a gem. Classics like "Acid In The House", " The Long Run", "Flesh (Club Mix)", "Sound of C" make this tape interesting. However the mediocrity of tracks by Jet, Beat Club, Taste of Sugar, 101 and Music Train where video bimbo's are lip-syncing the samples and the general lack of inspiration in making these clips pulls down the average of the compilation. Enjoy the silly haircuts. Reminisce and taste the atmosphere of the late 80's early 90's new beat scene. But be critical.
Plastic Bertrand - J'te Fais Un Plan - 27-May-06 04:06 AM
The only merit this album brings us is "Tout Petit La Planète" produced and written by Pierre Van Dormael and Bernard Loncheval. I gave this album a 3/5 because of this track, otherwise it would have been 0/5. This spacey track is a welcome change to the mediocre cheap covers and commercial Punk and Reggae on the rest of this album written by Lou Depryck who was obviously trying to repeat the success he had with the first LP "An 1".
