Pendulum (3) - Another Planet / Voyager - 27-Mar-05 04:40 AM
Both tracks are of a high calibre, but epecially notable is Another Planet, with an awesome switchup to a swing beat, a signature move by Pendulum. Its beats are sometimes too unique, which makes it peculiar because Another Planet is difficult to mix out of, without losing the groove.

As an owner of all three, this is probably the best of the Straight Bangin mixes. Hardcore, booty and hard house come together seamlessly (I always think gabba/hardcore is a suitable cousin to hard house, despite their different origins). Overall it's good for one listen but you soon get tired of it. In my opinion Venom's mixing style is too slow for this type of music, as he lets tracks meander for 3 minutes before moving on to the next. But it's just a personal preference. Tracks by House Wrecka, DJ Delirium and Neikka RPM give it some replay value.

This is reminiscent of the days when I first listened to D (Rock the Funky Beat, etc) but now it's not worth the money. Biggest problems: too-drawn out and formulaic, songs take too long to build-up, even for D The rapping and ethnic instruments are novel, but they don't do much to help. It just sounds too empty to me. *goes back to listening The Dungeonmaster's Guide*
