Various - Epic House Experience - 19-Jul-08 11:20 AM
A selection of classic progressive house from 1996 when the genre was at it's peak. Suitably named "Epic House" by Mixmag because the tracks are so long, usually ranging between 12 and 17 minutes this CD contains full 12" uncut versions, perfect for mixing with. One particular highlight is the first track - a rare remix of Sasha's classic "Magic" by Blue Amazon that was only ever released on this compilation and on the DJ only monthly DMC remix series. Saying that, every track is a classic, apart from the Van Basten one which is easily forgettable.

James Holden - Horizons - 19-Feb-08 11:42 AM
Not to be confused with SILVER024, this was released in 2006 to celebrate 10 years of Silver Planet Recordings. Way Out West provide their previously unrelased DUB on this re-issue. The only difference is cutting out the piano from their main remix that was relased on Incredible Records. This is the version that Nick Warren used during his live DJ sets and I heard him play it at Amnesia in Ibiza. This Dub is also played by Max Graham on his Cream mix CD. You decide if you prefer more piano on the remix or less on the dub but its a nice alternative.

A definitive classic in progressive house history that opened the road for James Holden. Written in 1999, on the most basic music software and a cheap computer, it proves that you don't always need high grade equipment to make stand out material.

Sasha - Airdrawndagger (Advance CD) - 01-Dec-07 01:36 AM
This promo is the probably the reason why Airdrawndagger didn't sell that well. In the words of Sasha, it got leaked on the net a few weeks prior to release. Before I went to Ibiza in July 2002 I downloaded the full mp3 on the then free p2p program Kazaa so I actually was able to listen to this on the balcony of my room at the hotel before the CD came out, and for free. Listening to it in the hot sun was an experience I will never forget. Unlike some promos (like Global Underground) it does not feature samples on the top saying that it is a promo copy only.

However, a few weeks later when I got back from my hols I bought a proper CD copy because I wanted to support Sasha and have a lossless copy. I also bought the unmixed vinyl but was unhappy to see that Cloud Cuckoo was missing from it. You should note that the tracks on the unmixed vinyl are slightly different from the mixed CD, track 3 especially diring the breakdown. Its the same with Involver.

Highly recommended - one of the best electronic CD artist albums of the last decade.

Various - Viva Ibiza Chill - 06-Sep-07 06:43 PM
If you're lucky enough to have ever been to Cafe Mambo on Sunset Strip in San Antonio, Ibiza and have enjoyed the sounds then this is the CD for you. There are not many other chillout CDs out there that feature music like this one. It is compiled and mixed by Mambo resident DJ Pete Gooding and along with many other "free" CDs it is better than the official Cafe Mambo and Cafe Del Mar CDs in my opinion as it is a true reflection of the sound that is played at Mambos.

The only drawback is that the recording for some reason has been mastered in mono. I didn't notice this at first when I played it through my 2.1 setup, but as soon as I listened it through headphones it was clear that someone has made a mistake with the recording. It's not as noticable through speakers so I suggest you don't use headphone. This aside I recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys the "true" Mambo's sound, and you can pick a copy up cheap on here or on eBay. You won't be disappointed.
