Bohannon* - Maybe You Can Dance / I Found My Love On A Saturday - 07-Dec-08 09:59 AM
This is a 12 minute and 48 second funky, disco-soul jam with an 8 minute funk jam out from master percussionist : Hamilton Bohannon (Stevie Wonder's drummer from 1965 to 1967, and he worked as a bandleader and arranger on tours by Motown Records artists into the mid-'70s). In this production you can hear the pure class of funk without the classic disco approach of these years. He also combines funk with rock elements such as for distorted and delayed guitars and trumpets so this track takes an obscure and hypnotic feeling.
Ednah Holt - Serious, Sirius Space Party - 04-Aug-08 02:04 AM
One of Larry Levan's favourite song of 1981, so the dub mix called "Serious, Sirius Sax Party" that was never officially released is available on B side of this special remasterd west end pressing. Some rumours says Larry Levan released about 100 white labels of "Serious, Sirius Sax Party" only for the Club members. This special dub version is quite better than the original because Sax give to the song another instrumental feel although ednah holt's voice is missing.
Lace - Can't Play Around - 30-Jul-08 11:23 PM
One of Larry Levan's favourite track and a Paradise Garage classic, also included in the Album collection "Journey into Paradise: The Larry Levan Story". I have to notice that this special Promo issue of this classic contains the Dub version called Instrumental in B side (6:21) that start as an instrumental version but ends with vocals in a very Garage Dub Style, in according to some rumours instrumental side was Larry Levan's favourite version that he use to play in the club.
Celestial Choir - Stand On The Word - 05-Jul-08 01:52 AM
Excellent sounding pressing of an impossibly rare LP track, that has never sounded as clear or dynamic as this version. Originally recorded live in the First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, New York City, in 1982 and pressed only for the congregation, Walter Gibbons (owner of Jus Born studios and a new born Christian at the time of the recording) acquired a copy and played it out at the 7th Avenue. Rock & Soul shop were he worked. This was the place where most discerning DJs and soulful dance music aficionados picked up on this new sound, and it quickly became a Garage, Loft and Zanzibar club classic, championed by Larry Levan, David Mancuso and others.
