Profile: Started listening to Electro / Hip Hop around 1982 and tried my hand at Breaking and Graffiti, but soon I was getting more into the DJ side of things when I took up 'bedroom mixing' in 1986/7. I couldn't afford to buy Technics then so I got kinda frustrated with my records jumping all over the place and it took a back seat.

In 1988 I started to listen to the Acid House/Techno (I didn't give up on the Hip Hop though like a lot of people did) which was taking the country by storm and started to mix this music instead. By now I was spending 3/4 of my wages on records and using most of my waking moments mixing (along with some of my friends) and I had invested in a pair of Technics 1200's (Silver).

In 1991 I, along with a mate, got a slot on a pirate radio (Destiny 99.3), a 3 hour session which we presented ourselves as a 'double act'. This lasted for about 1 1/2 to 2 years after which it folded. Also played a few clubs during this time, the most significant being Sterns which was held on the south coast in a converted mansion. I then hooked up with a couple of more established DJ's but due to some difference in our personalities this died out after about a year or so and and that was basically the end of my DJ 'career'.

After this, I had a break from all the music stuff as I got on with my life, but at the turn of the Millenium I got the bug again for Hip Hop 'scratch mixing', though not in a serious way, so I occassionally dust off the decks for a quick spin of the old school vinyl.

For me the best music is the old-school Hip Hop and I mean REAL old school from it's birth to early 90's. There are (for me) two significant era's here, the early Electro days and the later 'glory years' of Hip Hop (from about 1988-1992) after which I found the music went into different directions, either it was Gangster style or it was too conscious for my liking and I stopped buying records almost completely.

As for the Housey side of things, I much prefer the hard Techno and Acid style's but one of the more memorable era's for me was the early Euro style which dominated the rave scene in 1990 and 1991.

MC Mell'O' - Comin' Correct - 11-Jul-07 02:08 AM
This is an awesome British rap release. The production is second to none and MC Mell'O's delivery is suberb. There weren't many British acts that could produce a record of this quality at this time, Hijack and Gunshot being the closest. This record would give many US counterparts a run for their money. After playing this recently it has to be one of my favourites from that era of British Hip Hop. A must for any early British rap fan.

Little Little - Tickle Me - 18-Dec-06 07:58 AM
This has to be one of the best Acid tunes ever. It was well before its time, with its use of heavy chugging, churning dirty synth bass which intertwined with the warbling high acid, the track always seemed to build up into a relentless frenzy of madness with no sign of coming to an end. Excellent.
