Paul Kantner / Jefferson Starship - Blows Against The Empire - 21-May-08 04:09 PM
This is a lost classic. Featuring an all star cast of West Coast musicians such as Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Joey Covington, Jack Cassady, Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, David Crosby, Graham Nash - this album personifies the Haight Ashbury spirit of the 60's. A concept album detailing the hijacking of a Starship to travel into space to set up a new society on a new planet. Musically it is superb. The opening rebellious rock n roll of Mau Mau. The psycedelic banjo plucking of the Baby Tree. The soaring vocals of Grace Slick on Lets Go Together. The finest moment of all comes in the shape of the beautiful Have You Seen The Stars Tonite (would you like to come up on A deck and look at them with me)Sheer brilliance. They don't make albums like this anymore!!

Neil Young - Live At Massey Hall 1971 - 21-May-08 03:35 PM
This is Neil Young ,arguably, at his creative peak. Recorded between After the Gold Rush and Harvest, acoustic and beautifully raw, this is the real deal. No overdubs, no studio trickery, heart on his sleeve, Youngs talent is stripped bare and put on display. One of the few great singer songwriters to maintain their integrity over the last 5 decades. This CD gives us an insight as to why. Respect to Mr.Soul himself - A true legend. Awesome.

Oroonies, The - The Woods Are Alive With The Smell Of His Coming - 01-Apr-08 04:46 PM
The Oroonies are one the worlds lost musical gems. Most of their output was cassette only and all of it was highly experimental and brilliant. For anyone that saw them live, particularly mid 80's, it was an experience indeed. Either loved or hated The Oroonies would provoke strong reaction. Some would say it was the greatest thing they'd ever seen, others would fear for their mental health. Awesome band, this 12" barely scratches the surface of the almighty depths of the Oroonies.

Various - Freezone 6: Fourth Person Singular - 19-Mar-08 04:12 PM
Ok, another high quality Freezone compilation from the ever tasteful DJ Morpheous. Lots of warm waves of elecrtronic bliss in many shapes and sizes. An excellent package. However, Freezone 6 has a special gem tucked away near the end of the journey that goes by the name of Moonbathing by Amba (aka Tom Middleton). A truely gorgeous work of art - very deep - fretless bass - beautifully designed blend of the organic and the electronic. An outstanding track that is worth the price of this compilation alone. The real meat of the matter, my record buying friends, is that Freezone 6 is the ONLY place you will find Moonbathing on vinyl. That in itself makes this one goldust. Highly recomended.

Blackjoy* - Moustache - 17-Mar-08 09:44 AM
The first time I heard this it stopped me dead in my tracks. Awesome. Deep, jazzy, slow building house music. It's very much a fusion of the soul jazz disco meets house but done with understated class. Great funky guitar lick. A solid 120bpm back beat. Has a Stevie Wonder flavour to the keys. Gets you right in the pelvis! Only the French could come up with a tune like this. "Proper house music". Love it.
