Profile: I am a working DJ with far too many records - 17 years worth of promos and purchases are now weighing down my home. Recently I have been listing items at ebay for sale under the user name phil-england. Please feel free to browse.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not interested in making MP3s or exchanging music in this way. Quite aside from being unlawful it is exceptionally time consuming!

Please do not ask for MP3s or any other kind of copies. Any requests of this nature will be ignored. Thank you.

Britney Spears - Baby One More Time - 08-Sep-06 08:01 AM
This is one truly classic pop record and stigma aside: When I received this record in the post some years back, I had never heard of Britney Spears. I listened to the record and was blown away. I pictured the artist as a young black singer, having grown up singing gospel. The composition was intelligent and musical, giving music theorists a run for their money, making good use of classical cadences and tried and tested pop formulas etc. This record was also one of the sexiest tunes Id ever heard and playing it to my Newcastle University crowd on a commercial club night, it was an instant hit, expecially with the ladies. Then the video came out: I was wrong about the ethnic origins of Britney, but I was right about this being one of the sexiest records ever! It had the video to match. Being a pop star will always bring about dis-respect from those that are too cool for pop. But in my opinion a great record is always a great record whatever happens in an artists career. I also believe that Britney is yet to so better! This record is still one of my dance floor rescue tunes, for when its looking a little tired out there. This is a peak time, guaranteed floorfiller for any pop club. Mixes are a little whack, but the kind of thing to be expected in the late 90s and they all bounce along quite merrily.

Gus Gus - David - 16-Jan-06 05:09 PM
One of my favourites from Ibiza 2004. It was being caned everywhere during the latter half of the season, from the West End to the super clubs. The progressive rumbling bass line of the Darren Emerson Mix is what makes it for me. 100% infectious, a pick me up for any discerning dancefloor and a must have for any DJ, and still in my box.

LHB - Everybody Sees It On Your Face - 30-Dec-05 12:51 PM
One of my favourite electro pop pieces of all time, and seriously overlooked by the industry. Cleverly sampling Stings "Invisible Sun" and with a New Order style composition and arrangement, I used to play this credible slice of electro-pop just about everywhere I went. In my opinion it is the perfect pop song. Unfortunately UPS lost this among thousands of CDs coming back from Ibiza 2004. Would love to replace it!

All Around The World - 28-Oct-05 10:01 AM
I can only admire the machine that is All Around The World. It has been in successful existence for what must be pushing two decades by now. (No mean feat for a dance label) I, along with many others detested the phase of 80s covers and hardore re-hashes in the lame guise of trance, but it sold! it is, afterall, possible to choose what you listen to and buy, despite what any given label is doing. I believe anyone who is too quick to point out how crap anothers taste is, is probably the smaller minded. I have to say that recenly, AATW have started, broadening out & releasing some real gems and have brought some great tunes from smaller labels to wider public awareness. I have also discovered recently that AATW tracks are also dead handy records to use for teaching young people to DJ - they are predictable in format, easy to mix and the kids love the memorable tunes. (and for me, its easier on the ear than the No.1 choice: New Monkey!)
