Well well well. Fresh release from Paul Blackfords electro / UK bass label Bass Gun and up on production duties is Sol_Dat with a crew of remixers.

Sol_Dat - Speed Demon
Junglist electro with a kicking acid b-line With beats sounding like their from a drummer rather than a machine. The main drop takes it up a couple of notches and it powers its way out and about. Great stuff.

Sol_Dat - Speed Demon (DJ Cutlass Supreme Remix)
Jacking, stripped beats and a big rolling bassline gradually adding more electro elements. Krunky offerings with a head nodding melodic bassline. This track is just begging for a skanking filthy acapella.

Sol_Dat - Speed Demon (Mazzula Remix)
B-boy drums leading into a whobbed sub before the dark electro b-line comes rasping out. Great track this, with a fresh and peakfloor feel with the main section and breakdown. Consider me a fan of Mazzula.

Sol_Dat - Speed Demon (Teutonic Kaboom Remix)
Dark, glitched out fragile distortion encapsulates that bassline of the original with a fat wide extra bassline kicking it out on top. This remix has a feel of an old Jungle wobbler, or some breaky garage with that old skool 2nd bassline.

Elemental
Dubbed out electro scatters of sound with a gated stuttered vox rising in the lower levels. Glitches, edits and scratches and even rewinds perpetuate around the deep wall of aural delight. Just awesome.

BBRobot
More of those beautiful stuttered style vocal stabs with driving hi hats and bubbling bass. Come the drop and this track gets darker and falls through the floor with it’s depth. Brooding and ready to bite.

BBRobot (Señor Frio Remix)
Dark rumbling and woodblock hits capture the feel of the original but make it take on a fresh identity. Slick and waiting to slice your throat in a dark alley.

BBRobot (Odnu Remix)
Melody rich and uplifting even in parts yet still retaining the beauty of the original. A fresh name to these ears on the remix. But one I shall be looking out for in the future.

BBRobot (214 Remix)
A minimal element remix. Simpler with a nice electro style beat.

Sio
Downtempo and just a joy to listen to. Stunningly simple and heartfelt.

Dennis Bunton aka Ion Driver is carving out quite a niche for himself with his sculpturing of electronica. With a recent showcase on MANTIS radio attracting a plethora of fresh and even obsessive fans to his sounds, combined with his previous releases I’ve no doubt this boy is going to go far.

Fucking awesome.

Ekaros - Bazmeg
Dark wobbling bass in the standard dubstep halfstep beat style. Eerie simple keyed synths are scattered around this simple roller. The melody is subtle and hidden away in the bass frequencies.

Ekaros - Dust
An epic almost build leads us into a broody deep minimal beat track. The drop adds an extra dimension about 3 minutes in. This is a track that needs to be heard loud and in a dark room. Wicked.

Ekaros - Enkeli
Large and wicked drum work continue the eerie unsettledness of the previous track, but add a rolling drum & bass vibe to the track. I love this. Haunting, big and clever. Looking forward to hearing this track out loud.

OVERALL
A new direction musically for Subgrade, with the previous releases being focused on the electro sound, with offshoots into techno. The Dust EP gives 3 different takes on the dubstep sound. Enkeli is the clear winner for the dancefloor and the title track, Dust, stands up tall and proud as some wicked electronica.

I feel that Bazmeg lets the EP down a bit and doesnt give us anything we havent already heard by others done better. But the other 2 tracks make up for this.

Once again, a solid package on offer from Subgrade.

Big bassline action with doubled beats and a wicked space synth. Subtle dancehall flavours in the beat crop up after the first drop. Grimey 2 step action permeates throughout. Could defo be found in some dubstep/breakstep sets at your local dark pit. Filth.

System Online
Lawgiverz style broken beat stylings with added electro distortion, Heavy on speakers and bassbins this one. Space sound fx all over the shop, before the main section is allowed out. Chunky beats kick in from 3 minutes in, and you know this track means business.

Junkcore
Grimey clicks and vocal snippets build into a repeating driving synth line that intercuts inself with a familiar electro kick. 2nd drop and were into slow bass and click overload. Another thing youd happily find in a Lawgiverz set.

Press Stress
Instantly harder beat. Robotic noises and another dancehall feel to the distorted beat. One of those tunes that feels off beat. After the drop it gets into breaky techno terrority. At the main breakdown and drop we come back to a hard and chunky feel. Heavily distorted vocoded snippets start rearing up in the chaos.

OVERALL
Very strong first release for this label. Nymate Association, who I believe come from Hungary, are names to watch. If you like the wee DJs youll love this EP.

Afghan Headspin - Cokehead [Cocaine]

Odd. A musical sing song intermixed with meaty female panting (one can assume) "Cocaine". Then she kicks in, and were presented with 140bpm Drum n Bass which is a sound Im really enjoying seeing inject from freshness back into the breaks scene, which to be honest has got really stale the past few years.

Hard bass backed beats with large rising licks of drum hits. Comedy filth.

A pretty unique track and take and one that is sure to get you noticed if you drop it.
