Jeff Mills - Late Night (Archiv #04) - 08-May-02 02:53 AM
Why now? What do they think? That some DJs will play it now? More than 6 years passed since Waveform Volume 1 was released...and Millss remix of "Late Night" was heard long ago, too... Dont really understand this move... Anyway, I still think that the original mix is the best: Cold Berlin atmosphere, dark deep house bass, simple old rhythm [hat, clap, ride] & late night tech stabs - all that wrapped in one amazing old school techno pattern... This EP needed its place when Waveform 1 was taking over clubs in 1993, 1994...
Samuel L* - The Merengue Mixes - 12-Apr-02 02:08 AM
It is amazing: every version has Merengue sounds in but every version carries something special too, something that the artist has in most of his tracks... Slam remix - great pattern, amazing break... SLS remix - a dub after so much time... Oliver Ho remix - nice chords and melodies for it...
Jel Ford - At Last - 10-Apr-02 12:10 AM
If you dont know much about this record, heres a recomendation: Blowout is one of the best harder tracks on Jericho! It is the most unusual track Ive ever heard... Where & how Jel found or made samples for this rhythmic melody and for this perfect tech loops, I dont know, but it all fits together in a screaming track...
Funk D'Void - Diabla (Remixes) - 06-Apr-02 11:46 AM
2 totally different styles but 2 great remix tracks... Kevin Saundersons remix is deep and bassy as usual and The Hackers remix is a fantastic evilish electro track but still has a nice Soma string to change the mood in some parts... Nice work, guys... Its defintly more interesting than the FDV/SLS vinyl...
Devilfish - Techwise & Otherwise - 01-Feb-02 10:09 AM
OK, Ill comment on every track but the Cd itself is fantastic - everything sounds live and its all techno beats with big bang percussions, hard loops and thrilling deep and sharp melodies... :
01 - Da Intro: Intro...
02 - Burning: Good techno with percussions and its prety simple: Nothing but rhythmic loops used, some good breaks...
03 - Jammin: Not very interesting - sharp claps, easy kicks, classic rides, some tech house melodies... Focused on the claps...
04 - Good Intentions: Great song! one of my favorite songs on this album... If you heard a lot of Beyers songs and Ben Simss remix of "The Mole" then you know that stab voice yelling... its here too... First it starts with a reverb reakbeat electro [in cutoff] and then they add techno loops with a groove looping... There are some breaks with that first electro lops and some voices... Not bad...
05 - Discotech: Funny song... Very slow - 124 BPM... Theres nothing special about this track - it has classic techno hats and loops but it has those old disco sounds...
06 - Summer Storm: Similar pattern as "Manalive"... Packed loops - hard with and without those rides... Simple melody - one sound flowing...
07 - Affro: Afro influence, but its not tribal [too techy for tribal...]... Afro dru patterns, more computer percussions, african voices - thats it...
08 - Texas: Boring...
09 - A Deeper Feelin: My favorite! Good breakbeat loop, nice groove [bass], constant rides [almost everywhere], nice melody breaks [reminds me of "Manalive" and Umeks "Voltaren" but it has another kind of beat...
10 - Manalive: Everybody knows this one, so - no comment...
