Profile: Formerly a major clubber in the North of England, until the local scene became too mainstream in the mid-90's. Used to frequent The Orbit most weeks from 1991-1995, but could also be found at Ark, Phobia, Vague, Basics, Hard Times and Ronson in Leeds, and Love2Be in Sheffield amongst others. Now trying to re-build and expand my music collection on vinyl as many of my dj mix tapes have started to perish.
Reviews:

Various - Bio Rhythm 2 - "808 909 1991" - 08-Aug-02 05:36 AM
Fantastic compilation album featuring some innovative bleepy techno from various artists on the Network label.
The cassette version of this release included extra tracks by Rhythim is Rhythim, C Connection and possibly others.

This really is a must buy for any afficionado of the bleep.

Bassomatic - Fascinating Rhythm - 25-Jun-02 08:38 AM
If you don't recognise the greatness of this record, then there must be something wrong with you.
A terrific example of the versatile early 90's UK sound, this forewarns of the incredible resurrection of Madonna's career which William Orbit helped to achieve a few years later.
A peerless combination of chilled-out groove, tweaky noise, and soulful vocal drops make this an essential addition to any record collection.
The perfect tune for the end of any night.

Various - Out Of Sight (OST) - 10-Apr-02 08:36 AM
It's a rare record that can combine latin beats with Dean Martin and electro and get away with it. David Holmes' excellent soundtrack manages to do this with style. The Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction formula of mixing soundbites with classic records is further enhanced by the addition of sections of the smooth and ultracool Out of Sight score.
It is Holmes' inclusion of these self penned tunes which warrants the soundtracks inclusion in a list of electronic music, but themes are reflected and cross-referenced between classic songs by artists such as the Isley Brothers and Holmes' own work. A classic and hip score for a classic and cool movie.

Vernon - Vernon's Wonderland - 21-Mar-02 03:02 AM
This is an almost perfect record, and one which became an all time classic in the early years of The Orbit. It's broad appeal stems from it's techno, trance, acid and new classical influences, which combine to produce an uplifting experience which never gets too hard. This was soon playing at all types of club and venue, but mercifully never undermined itself with a chart entry.

The B side begins with a beatless orchestral melody (The Past), which is followed by a lengthy acid builder (The Future), both of which reference Vernon's Wonderland without ever seeming like remixes.

Love Decade - So Real - 21-Mar-02 02:41 AM
A high riding chart entry in the UK for Love Decade, which resulted in an appearance on pop chart show "Top of the Pops". A terrific vocal, and layers upon layers of soaring music, ensures that the a-side rides straight down the line between commercial dance, and all-out rave classic.

Side b features two excellent remixes, which bear no resemblance to the original other than the vocal, and even that only appears on one remix. There is also a DJ friendly acapella.
